Instant Cafe Theatre House of CHAI is changing the theme of its house! Yippee!
From its previous theme 'Home', CHAI is taking a plunge into the month of 'History' starting from 9th November to the 9th of December. I find myself admiring at the very thought of changing themes of the house every two months.
THE CONCEPT
Puah Chin Kok (The artist in-charge) introduced his vision of the art form to conceptualise 'History' in CHAI. Being the photographic based artist that he is, the concept brought forth is nothing far from his forte and well of course, it includes photographs... Anyway, the main idea was to cover up the walls of CHAI with developed photographs...A LOT of photographs...It was mentioned that we needed to paste at least 10,000 pieces of photos on the wall... Well, 10000? sounds ok right? what is 10000 anyway? Thats what i thought...but when we started...10 minutes passed...30 minutes passed, 1 hour passed and then it started to feel like time has stopped ticking...
After God knows how many hours into the process of pasting them on the wall, I looked into the box and saw tons of photos still waiting to be pasted and I looked up on the wall...WARRGHHH!!! Still alot of blank spaces to be filled!! In order to keep ourselves entertained and motivated...we had tea!yeah! and I drank alot hoping to get drunk...however...it was tea...
MOVE MOVE MOVE
We hustled and stopped at 6pm just to realise that we have covered 1/3 of the living room! YEAY!!! Good progress so far! As I looked up the filled up space... I LOVED IT. I liked the idea, the effect and most importantly the tangible result was overwhelming! For me, this concept is not a typical picture on 'History' where one would simply associate the theme to people like Tunku Abdul Rahman and events like Independence Day. I see it as more of a symbol of captured moments in life that we, typical people in society, relive through the memories we share. The photos on the wall may also be seen as a symbol to how different memories and experiences in life are overlapping and interlinked.
Job well done! but then...i realised that we have only pasted around 1500 photos...another 8500 to go....*sob* T__T
